There's a preview evening at mima tonight and you're invited!Tonight celebrate with mima Thursday November 24 5.30-8pm. As mima’s 5th birthday approaches in January 2012, mima celebrates a group of remarkable people who have contributed a great deal to the cultural life of Middlesbrough. What Friends have done for Middlesbrough: A 5th birthday exhibition showcases works of art works which were bought for Middlesbrough’s collection, alongside documents relating the acquisition of these works. The remarkable archive of historic documents, letters, press cuttings and speech notes, generously gifted to mima by Lady Crathorne’s son Lord Crathorne, tells the story of the impact that a group of individuals had on Middlesbrough, and the cultural legacy they left for future generations. Works from Middlesbrough collection are also on show as part of the Between Dimensions exhibitions. This exhibition showcases still life works from Tate alongside selected objects from Middlesbrough collection, and includes works by important modern and contemporary artists including Pablo Picasso, David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein. Come along with a friend and enjoy some home-grown musical talent from the best of our hugely popular mima Open Mic night and a cocktail demonstration for guests by The Keys.
