Middlesbrough has launched its bid for city status!

City status has the potential to raise the profile of an area and attract both investment and tourism, and work is well under way to make as strong a case as is possible for Middlesbrough. The town is one of a number bidding for sought-after city staus as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubille celebrations next year and a formal bid will be submitted at the end of May.

As part of the campaign, primary school children are writing to the Queen urging her to pick the town to become the UK's newest city. Boro fans have waved the flag for City Status for Middlesbrough and community activists have held an event proudly proclaiming their messages of support for Middlesbrough and many businesses have offered in kind support.

We are working with a range of partners from across Teesside and the wider Tees Valley.
